First: Let’s have a look at you.
Today is the day you’re fiiiinally getting shit done! So, you sit down with your laptop. The first task - check your emails. One of the people you follow on Twitter sent out a good one… time to tweet about it - meh, while you’re here you could also scroll down a bit, see what’s going on - … - oh damn, those 30 minutes were over quickly! Better make a coffee to be more productive.
Yadda yadda yadda
You end up jumping from one task to another for the rest of the day. The work you wanted to do is barely touched after 8 hours… you were so productive that you ended up not producing anything!
You don’t have days like that? Good, you’re far ahead of the mass. Many people do.
But let’s compare that with the more successful folk. People who built up an empire from dust in a few short years. Since he’s all over the internet lately, let’s take Sam Ovens.
A few short years ago he was broke as a joke, working from a garage. Now he’s (probably) a millionaire, teaches consulting to thousands of people and has an office in NYC.
What made him so successful? He just got lucky, right? Wrong.
In his office, there is a statue with lasers coming out of the eyes… this is how it looks:
What does this represent? LASER FOCUS.
I believe that this is the key ingredient to standing out in whatever it is you do. If you’re truly focused, and able to keep that up for hours and hours… your productivity will skyrocket, your possible outcome almost limitless.
So work towards that. Switch off your phone when you work, don’t go on Social Media, make sure you prepare everything beforehand so you won’t be interrupted.
And then immerse yourself in the task at hand, shut the rest of the world out. What I really recommend is splitting your time into intervals of 25 minutes work, 5 minutes rest. There’s an app for that called Brain Focus. Also: Meditate frequently.
I didn’t take long to write this email (I hope it doesn’t show) and I’m not writing frequently at the moment. Why? Because I’m focused on an important exam coming up that’s eating up all my time… but due to laser focus on my work, I’m ahead of schedule.
It works.
See you around!
